Community Education at Florida Atlantic University

Florida Atlantic University was the first comprehensive university-based Community Education web site to go online. It focuses on Community Education-related initiatives at FAU and provides an overview of the publications in the National Community Education Publication Series that can be ordered online. It has over 20 links to state and national sites related to parent and community involvement, partnerships, and lifelong learning.

Colorado Parent Information Resource Center

CPIRC is one of the 28 parent assistance centers across the country funded by the U.S. Department of Education. It is a well-organized site with comprehensive information for parents and those who work with parents. The site includes over 100 tip sheets and reviews of state and national projects, and parent involvement research with direct links to original sites.

Communities In Schools champions the connection of needed community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life.

The Learning Network

Launched in September 2000, The Learning Network's mission is to be an online consumer network of the world's best learning and information resources, personalized to help parents, teachers, and students of all ages take control of their learning and make it part of their everyday lives.

Partnership for Family Involvement in Education

The Partnership for Family Involvement in Education was established in 1994 under then Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley and offers resources, ideas, funding, and conferences relevant to family involvement in education.

Hand in Hand: Parents Schools Communities United for Kids

This site was developed as a response to Goal 8 (Parental Involvement) of the National Education Goals 2000. It was established to share information about programs that value and nurture the family and community role in children's learning. The site is funded by the Mattel Foundation and coordinated by the Institute for Educational Leadership.

Harvard Family Research Project

HFRP's mission is to examine and encourage policies and programs that empower families and communities to help children reach their potential. It publishes and disseminates research findings and provides technical assistance to a nationwide network of practitioners, policy makers, and educators.

Human Service Policy Center — University of Washington

The Human Services Policy Center (HSPC)'s mission is to improve the well-being of children, families and communities. HSPC conducts policy and data analysis and provides training, technical assistance and consultation to further this mission.

Mega Skills: Home School Institute

The major focus of Home School Institute (HSI) and its MegaSkills Education Center is to build achievement in school and beyond. HSI works with school districts, federal, state, and local government agencies, corporations, and community organizations. Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, HSI is supported by foundations, government grants and individual contributions.

Minnesota Community Education Association

Minnesota was the first state Community Education association to establish an interconnected State Community Education Network. It focuses on the State Association's committees and has links to the Minnesota State Educational/Legislative System and more than 35 school district community education sites.

The Mott Foundation

The C.S. Mott Foundation's work in Community Education began in 1935 in Flint, Michigan, its home community, as an attempt to use school facilities more fully for learning and recreation programs for youth and adults. Since then, the Foundation has continued to support community/school partnerships. It has made grants totaling $177.5 million locally, nationally, and internationally.

A new initiative was announced in 1998: the Foundation pledged up to $55 million in support of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program, a five-year, $1 billion federal proposal to expand before- and after-school programs for children. The Foundation also has established a new list serve (Mott After School) and links for individuals interested in the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program.

National Association for Partners in Education (NAPE)

For over 30 years, the National Association of Partners in Education has been an objective voice in developing school volunteer, intergenerational, community service, and business partnership programs throughout the United States. Originally the National School Volunteer Program, the organization took its present name in 1988 when it assumed responsibility for the annual National Symposium on Partnerships in Education. Currently, it is the only national membership organization devoted solely to providing leadership in the field of education partnership development.

National Center for Community Education (NCCE)

 Since 1962, The National Center for Community Education, located in Flint, MI, has been the starting point for the Community Education movement. NCCE has been training educators and all others interested in the community school concept. In 1998 with the inception the 21st CCLC Federal afterschool program NCCE has been the provider of training for these grantees. NCCE extensive website features our schedule of workshops, including regional trainings, and online courses. National Coalition for Parent Involvement in Education (NCPIE)

NCPIE is a national coalition of organizations that includes over 75 family/community organizations, state and national associations, government agencies, higher education, research organizations, and consultants. This site provides links to the majority of NCPIE members and a listing of resources available from members.

National Education Association — Online (NEA)

NEA is America's oldest and largest organization committed to advancing the cause of public education. Founded in 1857 in Philadelphia and now headquartered in Washington, D.C., NEA proudly claims more than 2.5 million members who work at every level of education, from pre-school to university graduate programs. NEA has affiliates in every state as well as in over 13,000 local communities across the United States.

National Parent Information Network (ERIC)

This is a comprehensive site that is sponsored by two ERIC clearinghouses. Urban Education at Columbia University and Early Childhood Education at the University of Illinois. The purpose of the NPIN is to provide information to parents and those who work with parents and to foster the exchange of parenting materials. Monthly updates are provided on what is new in their extensive data base with over 100 links to parenting-related organizations that provide resources for those who work with parents.

National Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The National PTA is the oldest and largest volunteer association in the United states, working exclusively on behalf of children and youth. It has a comprehensive site with descriptions of educational programs and links to states and local PTA's. There are over 90 links of interest to parents and child advocate organizations.

New York Association for Continuing and Community Education

New York Association for Continuing and Community Education is the leading statewide association that provides information, services and support for professionals serving the needs of lifelong learners in New York State.

Parent Resource Network of the Children's Defense Fund

The Children's Defense Fund's PRN has selected a variety of national web sites that offer parents information on caring for their own children in 12 content areas with about five links per area.

The Parent Institute

The mission of The Parent Institute is to encourage parent involvement in the education of their children. The Parent Institute publishes a variety of materials including newsletters, booklets, brochures, and videos. The Parent Institute is a division of NIS, Inc., an independent, private corporation founded in 1989 by educators with extensive experience working with public and private schools in the U.S. and Canada. The corporation has two operating subdivisions: The Parent Institute and The Teacher Institute.
