The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) is looking for an energetic student intern to help in its research, public policy and communications areas for the summer.

The ideal student will have an interest in one or all of the areas listed above and be able to commit to a regular schedule that will be determined during the interview process. ACTE is looking for someone with excellent Web research skills and strong writing ability. This internship would be perfect for a Career-Tech Student Organization (CTSO) member, with a chance to work for the national association of career and technical educators. The position will offer a stipend and the Association will cover parking.

Title:  Regional Director of Florida

Description:

The Regional Director of Florida is a new position at BELL. BELL is currently in negotiations with Broward County to offer BELL’s After School Program, which will begin in the fall of 2008. The Regional Director is responsible for leading the development and growth of new school markets in Southeastern Florida for a Broward Summer program offering, as well as, both After School and Summer programs in Miami/Dade and Palm Beach Counties.

Responsibilities Include:

-Implementing a new launch strategy within Florida

-Working with the staff to continually improve organizational operating systems

-Increasing the impacts of our programs

-Prospecting with the Development and New Business Teams

-Ensuring effective relations with our constituency
 

Specific Skills and Responsibilities Include, But are Not Limited to:

-Provide Strategic Leadership—demonstrate consistent and effective personnel and performance management with reporting relationships; problem solve; analyze business opportunities; participate in national cross-functional and regional management meetings; contribute to the development of annual operating assumptions; lead regional growth targets.

-Ensure Quality in Service Delivery—oversee excellent program implementation across all sites for all participants; ensure students achieve academic and social gains targeted in the annual operating assumptions.

-Manage Regional Operations—communicate and manage annual operating assumptions throughout the region; manager regional and/or site-based compliance regulations; oversee effective regional coordination between Site Mangers and other functional managers.

-Manage Regional/Operational Budget to P&L Goals—manage costs and expenses within budget or better; manager accounting responsibilities; manage revenue (school sales/renewals, enrollment, retention, attendance); manager business to operating assumptions; manage business to achieve goals outlines in “metrics”.

-Develop and Maintain Partnerships—ensure strong, positive relationships with school and school-district personnel; work with BELL’s CEO, CSO, and CDO to establish and maintain relationships with state and local officials, foundations, and revenue opportunities; ensure high level of customer satisfaction.

Year One Critical Success Factors:

-Successful Launch of the Broward County After School Program

-Develop Regional organizational structure for the Florida Region

-Develop relationships with Miami/Dade and Palm Beach County Schools as well as Community Philanthropic organizations.

Experiences:

Bachelor’s degree required, Masters Degree preferred in Education, Social Work, Business; Minimum 10 years experience in education or related field managing a multi-site operation with full-time and large scale part-time workforce.

Operations management of a business unit having business development, budgeting and P&L responsibility; Demonstrated ability to lead stuff in support of goals, ensuring delivery of highest quality services; Knowledge of the school systems in Southeastern Florida preferred. Demonstrated experience managing and grown a non-profit organization or school system preferred.

Understanding of the foundation and corporate giving environment a plus. Passion and commitment to improving the quality of education for children living in low-income urban communities. Proficiency in Spanish a plus. Some travel required.

-Demonstrates a financial acumen; past P&L responsibility and financial forecasting.

-Decisive and creative sales and marketing abilities; inspires clients and staff.

-Developer of the people and coach and evaluator of staff.

Travel:

Able to travel 35% to 50% per year within Southeastern Florida. Can extend work hours beyond 40 hours per week as required by business necessities.
